Outlet Repair & Installation in Las Vegas

A dead outlet is annoying. A warm one is a warning. Most people live with both for months — which is exactly backwards, because outlet work is some of the fastest, least expensive electrical work there is.

Quick Answer

A-Team Electricians repairs and installs outlets, switches, GFCI protection, and USB/smart receptacles across the Las Vegas valley. Dead outlets diagnosed and fixed, scorched or two-prong outlets replaced and grounded properly, and new outlets added where you actually need them. Licensed, insured, upfront pricing.

Key facts

  • A warm, buzzing, or scorched outlet is a loose or arcing connection. Stop using it and have it repaired — this is the classic pre-fire symptom.
  • A dead outlet is often a tripped GFCI hiding in a garage or bathroom. Press every RESET button you can find before you call. No shame either way.
  • Kitchens, baths, garages, and outdoors require GFCI protection. Older homes here usually have gaps.
  • Two-prong outlets mean no ground. Adapters don't fix that; proper grounding or code-compliant GFCI replacement does.
  • Loose plugs that fall out of the wall = worn contacts = heat under load. Cheap fix, real risk.

Repairs we handle every week

  • Dead outlets — tripped GFCIs, failed devices, broken connections upstream in the circuit.
  • Warm, discolored, or scorched outlets — loose terminations or backstabbed connections arcing behind the cover.
  • Loose-grip outlets that won't hold a plug — worn contacts that heat up under load.
  • Buzzing or crackling at an outlet or switch — arcing you can hear.
  • Half-dead outlets — one socket works, the other doesn't, or the whole run flickers when you jiggle a plug.
  • Two-prong, ungrounded outlets in mid-century homes — corrected properly, not with a cheater adapter.

Outlets don't fail loudly. They fail warm, loose, and brown around the edges — then loudly.

GFCI protection: where Las Vegas homes fall short

Ground-fault (GFCI) outlets cut power in milliseconds when current leaks where it shouldn't — like through a person. Current code requires them in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, laundry areas, outdoors, and anywhere near water. Homes built decades ago met the code of their day, which means most older Vegas houses have gaps: an original garage outlet, a patio receptacle, a bathroom circuit that predates the requirement. Bringing those up to standard is quick work, and it's the single highest-value safety upgrade per dollar in the trade.

New outlets, where you actually need them

  • More outlets in older rooms — bedrooms built for one lamp now hosting a desk, two monitors, and chargers.
  • Dedicated circuits for garage freezers, home offices, and appliances that keep tripping shared circuits.
  • USB and smart receptacles — the wall-wart graveyard, retired.
  • Exterior outlets for holiday lighting and patio use, on GFCI-protected, weather-rated devices.
  • 240V receptacles for dryers, ranges, and shop equipment.

Adding circuits touches the panel and can require a permit — covered in our permit and code guide, and handled by us when it applies. If your panel has no room left for new circuits, that's a different conversation — our panel upgrade page covers it.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my outlet dead when the breaker isn't tripped?

The most common answer in Las Vegas homes: a tripped GFCI somewhere upstream — often in the garage or a bathroom — protecting that run. Press every RESET you can find. If that's not it, a connection has failed somewhere in the circuit, and that's a diagnosis visit.

My outlet feels warm. Is that dangerous?

Treat it as yes. Warmth means resistance at a connection, and resistance builds heat under load. Stop using the outlet, and if it's warm with nothing plugged in, switch off that breaker and call. This is the cheapest fire prevention you'll ever buy.

Can you replace two-prong outlets with grounded ones?

Yes — the right way depends on your wiring. Where a ground path exists, we ground the outlet properly. Where it doesn't, code allows specific GFCI-protected replacements with correct labeling. What we won't do is install a three-prong outlet on an ungrounded circuit and walk away.

Why do plugs keep falling out of my outlet?

The internal contacts are worn out. Beyond the annoyance, loose contact means arcing and heat under load. Replacement takes minutes; we'll also check whether the wiring behind it was backstabbed, which is usually the underlying culprit.

How many outlets can you add in one visit?

As many as the scope calls for — batching is cheaper per outlet since the setup is shared. A whole-house pass (repairs, GFCI gaps, added outlets) usually fits in a day.

Do smart outlets or USB outlets need special wiring?

No — they replace standard receptacles, though they're deeper, which matters in crowded boxes. We make sure the box fill and connections are right rather than forcing a device in.
